A few members on your board routinely miss meetings due to work commitments and ask to participate remotely. Should the board agree?
Students are threatening to hold a demonstration during school hours to further a social cause. How should administration respond?
A student requests, and the district provides, accommodations related to the student’s gender expression. The parent strongly objects and demands the accommodations stop. Does board policy address privacy concerns of both students and parents?
Taking a position on controversial issues in the absence of definitive statutory guidance can lead to debate that tests relationships among board members, and the board and the administration. Gain insight into developing consensus with other board members and administrators by identifying and debating policy approaches to controversial and/or current education issues. Facilitated by NJSBA Field Service, Policy and Legal departments.
