Funding Outdoor & Sustainable Classrooms

Collaborating with environmental non-profit organizations known as Land Trusts is a great way to get your district's green initiatives funded. The Hopewell Valley Regional School District partnered with a local nonprofit, which received corporate, nonprofit, and municipal grants to replace school lawn space with native plant garden, meadows and outdoor classrooms. Outdoor classrooms can provide an opportunity for standards-compliant hands-on, project-based curriculum. School meadows also cut grounds maintenance by reducing required lawn mowing, reducing the carbon footprint, and improving storm water management.
